The Super Eagles will continue their quest to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations tournament (AFCON) when they face co-host Tanzania in a doubleheader later this month.
Eric Chelleโs side kicked off their campaign with a 2-1 win over Madagascar in their opening game in September as they looked to avoid another major disappointment of missing out on a major tournament.
However, they were defeated 3-0 by Guinea-Bissau in their second game, which put a huge dent in their chances of qualifying from the group.
With no room for errors, they must now pick up maximum points from their remaining games. Ahead of the clash against Tanzania, Chelle could decide to hand invitations to several new players who have enjoyed impressive form at club level and could go on to make their debut for the Super Eagles.
This article looks at five players who are in contention to make their debut for the Nigerian national team against Tanzania.
Gift Orban
One player who could make his debut for the Super Eagles is the in-form Amedspor striker Gift Orban.
The 24-year-old has enjoyed a stunning start to the season with the newly promoted Turkish side and has been one of the best players in the Super Lig this season.
Orban has scored nine goals and provided four assists in the league, and his impressive form could earn him a recall to the Super Eagles setup for the first time since 2023 and could also potentially go on to make his debut for the national team.
Victory Akpe
Another player who could make his debut for the Super Eagles is young defender Victory Akpe. The Basel centre-back was handed a call-up ahead of Octoberโs international friendly game against Russia.
However, he eventually pulled out of that squad due to fitness concerns.
Chelle could hand him another opportunity to make his debut for the national team when they face Tanzania in two must-win games later in the month.
Emmanuel Ayaosi
Slavia Prague forward Emmanuel Ayaosi could also make his debut for the Super Eagles in November games against Tanzania.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a bright start to the season and has scored five goals across all competitions for the Czech Republic side.
With Samuel Chukwueze and Femi Azeez injury doubts for the crucial AFCON fixtures, it could open up a big chance for Ayaosi to earn a maiden invitation and potentially go on to make his debut for the national team.
