Nigeria winger Chidera Ejuke is likely to remain at Sevilla and is in talks over a new contract, a source close to the player has told Africafoot.
Ejuke, 28, is in the final year of his contract with the Spanish club, having previously been linked with a move away amid concerns over Sevilla’s financial situation.
However, the winger has strengthened his position at the club with his performances, and discussions over an extension are understood to have progressed well.
A source close to the player told Africafoot that Ejuke is likely to continue at Sevilla, with a two-year deal understood to be under discussion.
The Nigeria international is also keen to remain in Spain, where he has continued to feature for the Andalusian side.
Sevilla have yet to publicly confirm an agreement, and the negotiations are understood to be ongoing.
Ejuke’s Sevilla record
Ejuke joined Sevilla as a free agent in July 2024 after leaving Russian club CSKA Moscow. Since then, he has made 59 La Liga appearances, scoring four goals and providing two assists.
His time in Spain has included spells in and out of the starting line-up, but he has remained part of the squad as Sevilla navigate the demands of La Liga.
The winger’s future had attracted attention ahead of the previous transfer window, with reports linking him with clubs in Saudi Arabia and Qatar and English side Leeds United. Sevilla’s financial circumstances had also raised questions about whether the club might consider offers for a player they signed without paying a transfer fee.
The latest development, however, points towards a possible continuation of his career in Seville rather than an imminent departure.
From Norway to Spain
Ejuke began his European career with Norwegian side Vålerenga before moving to Dutch club Heerenveen in 2019. His performances in the Netherlands earned him a transfer to CSKA Moscow in 2020.
He later moved to Germany, joining Hertha Berlin on loan for the 2022-23 season, before spending the 2023-24 campaign on loan at Belgian club Royal Antwerp.
At Antwerp, he featured in both domestic competition and the UEFA Champions League before returning to the transfer market and securing his move to Sevilla.
Ejuke played for Ikhon Allah Academy and Wikki Tourists FC in Nigeria and has also represented Nigeria at international level, earning recognition for his dribbling, pace and ability to take on defenders in one-on-one situations.
If an agreement is reached, a new contract would offer the winger greater certainty over his future as he looks to maintain his place at Sevilla and continue his career in Spanish football.
